Every Amoretti Brothers piece is handcrafted from solid copper and brass — living materials that develop character over time. With a little simple care, your piece will stay beautiful for generations. Below is guidance for each type of product. If you ever have a question about caring for your piece, contact us at office@amorettibrothers.com.
Caring for copper cookware is easier than most people think. All Amoretti Brothers copper cookware is made from 100% pure copper, tinned by hand on the cooking surface.
Copper will naturally darken over time without regular polishing — but with a little care, you can restore the shine of your pans in minutes.
Before first use. When you receive your new copper cookware, wash it with dish soap and fresh water before using it for the first time.
Cleaning the exterior. Use a copper polish to keep the exterior bright and free from tarnish and white spots. As a natural alternative, scrub with a combination of lemon juice and salt, then rinse with fresh water — it will look spectacular again.
Cleaning the interior. Hand washing is recommended. Wash with hot, soapy water and avoid abrasive materials. Never use bleach.
Cooking with copper.
Re-tinning. After several years of use, the tin cooking surface can wear thin and should be re-tinned. We offer a full re-tinning service — contact us and we'll make your cookware shine like new.
Polished copper will naturally begin to patina as it reacts with its environment — this is part of the metal's character. If you prefer to keep the bright, polished look, the finish is easy to protect with simple, regular care.
Everyday cleaning. Use only a soft, clean cloth with mild dish soap and warm water, followed by a thorough rinse with clean water. Wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth. Never use abrasives, as they can damage the finish. To maintain the original shine once the copper begins to patina, use a quality copper polish cream and a good copper wax.
Handling. Copper and brass are durable but soft metals — they can be scratched, scuffed or dented relatively easily. Keep this in mind when bringing glasses, utensils and cleaning tools into contact with your sink or tub.
Stains and tarnish. Remove with a small amount of good-quality copper or brass cleaner. Rub lightly to lift the discoloration, let it dry, then polish with a soft, clean, dry cloth.
Scratches.
A bare copper or brass sink can always be restored to a bright mirror polish with readily available materials and a little elbow grease — even if it becomes badly scratched or tarnished.
A note on coatings. We do not recommend applying any paint-type coatings to a sink or tub. The coating will eventually wear through, leaving two dissimilar surfaces that are difficult to maintain and that do not complement each other.
Fingerprints. The oils from your hands can cause the metal to oxidize faster in those spots, so early fingerprints may appear. Over time these blend in as the rest of the metal oxidizes naturally, but if you'd like to remove them sooner, polish with a proper copper polish such as Brasso, available at most hardware stores.
To avoid any problems, we always recommend having your lights installed by a professional.
Our fixtures usually need only a light dusting to stay beautiful. If a deeper clean is needed, use only the mildest soap, the softest cloth and gentle pressure.
Please note our lights do not include a bulb — read the technical specifications of each product before ordering to confirm the bulb type required.
If your fixture is made from unlacquered copper or brass, it will develop a natural patina over time. Wear gloves when handling and installing unlacquered fixtures to avoid fingerprints and smudges: the oils from your hands cause the metal to oxidize faster in those spots. Over time these marks blend in as the rest of the metal oxidizes, but if early fingerprints appear, they can be removed by polishing with a proper copper polish such as Brasso, available at most hardware stores.
Clean with warm, soapy water. Avoid harsh abrasives and cleaning solutions, and always dry thoroughly.
Like all metal products, range hoods can be scratched over time. Remove light scratches by gently rubbing the area with a fine rubbing compound.
Our copper and brass tables, consoles and wall pieces follow the same principles as our sinks and tubs above: dust regularly, clean with a soft cloth and mild soap, avoid abrasives, and use a quality copper or brass polish to maintain shine. Unlacquered pieces will develop a natural patina over time — embrace it, or polish to keep the original luster.
